Updated – COVID-19 – MNW Community Center and Property Closed Through May 15th [Updated]

Posted by Jay Jackson

Jay is the Memorial Northwest HOA President. Jay has been on the HOA board since 2016 and has served as an Area Director, 1st Vice President and currently the President.

Update – We had hoped to have the CCMC open by April 30th but we are still not at a point where the Community Center and rest of the property can be opened. We are hoping the expiration of the Governor’s Executive Order GO-18 will free things up a bit more. The current GO-18 is set to expire on May 15th unless the Governor issues a new order suspending it or extending it. We understand the desire and frustration many people have with wanting the facility open. If you have questions regarding what can and can’t be open please read the GO-18. (Read it here)

The county has update their Stay Home, Work Safe order to be through April 30. Due to this we are closing the Community Center, Gym, Pool, Splash Pad, Playground and Tennis Courts to public access. The property will remain closed through April 30th. The reopen date may change depending on country or other government orders or other local conditions.

You may see the Harris County Sheriff office using the facility for our contract deputies so they have a place of refuge away from their regular facility.

We will reassess the status on a daily bases and will update this post and send email to the distribution list if status changes. We are disappointed we must do this, but in the interest of everyone’s health and safety we believe this was a necessary decision.

If you have questions you can email us through this site or post your question in the comment field below.

Why is going on with trash pickup. Received a very confusing call yesterday about no recycle pickup any more and limiting bags due to Covid 19. We put out the two bags they said we could today and it was never picked up. Helpful to understand how the pandemic affected our trash pickup so much.

The message you received was because you are on a distribution list for one of the MUDs. RRRTX is trying to continue business a usual. I will update if there is more info.

I submitted a comment about the tennis courts being re-opened about a week ago, and never heard back. Is this email box being monitored? Please respond.

Your message was forwarded on. The decision about not reopening the courts remaining until the social distancing guidance is lifted.

Is the gym opening may1st at normal hours?

    • Jay Jackson

At this time it does not look like the gym will be opening on the 1st. When the authorities having jurisdiction provide permission and conditions support it we reopen. We all want this to be different. Hopefully we will have an updated message to all homeowners with a status soon. The county and state guidelines set our position on this.

It seems Greg Abbot is starting to allow the lock-down orders to expire today. Any updates on a ETA for the gym reopening? I’m sure a lot of us are getting super antsy and need to take out some locked up aggression 😀

Will the tennis courts be opened tomorrow? Sure hope so

Jay, in your response dated April 24 you referenced the authorities having jurisdiction. The Texas governor said tennis courts would be opened. I’m guessing he is the proper authority. I know the governor edicts supersede those at the county level. I too am hoping access to the tennis courts opens tomorrow.

Curious in regard to the tennis courts being open? Since I sell and install finger print readers, I know that businesses have continued to use these for security all during this pandemic. I just recently installed another system. However, if that is a concern to keep the tennis courts closed, I would be willing to donate keys for the gate that could override the need for using the finger print reader. When all of this is deemed safe for the finger print readers to be used again, I can change the keys to the lock so the keys no longer have access. Just fyi, many subdivision tennis courts have never even closed their access. Spring Creek, Northgate, Northpoint, just name a few. Hoping we can have the same reasonable confidence in our neighbors that they have in theirs.

Still waiting on a response re tennis courts ….., will the courts reopen ??

Hopefully the CCMC committee will have an answer on this soon. I am looking forward to the CCMC being reopened soon but it must be done safely.

I have received some feedback from the CCMC regarding opening the community center.

“A few residents have inquired about the timeline for reopening our MNW Clubhouse and facility. Pursuant to GA-18 and Judge Hidalgo’s Second Amended Stay Home, Work Safe Order 1.(f), which collectively govern our facility, closure is mandated until May 20, 2020, under the current county order.

We are planning to reopen the facility as soon as the orders allow and it is safe to do so. We are reviewing health and safety standards so that when we reopen, we do so safely. We are also trying to follow the state and county orders as they change. The CCMC is developing a plan that requires consideration of social distancing, cleaning and mandated reduced occupancies. All these factors are required to be in place to open responsibly.

Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.”

Judge Hidalgo’s Second Amended Stay Home, Work Safe Order section that applies to the tennis courts is 1.(e). Not 1.(f) which regulates the gym and swimming pool. The tennis courts should be opened as per the Governor’s order and Judge Hidalgo”s order.
“e. Individuals may go to public parks and open outdoor recreation areas, Individuals may engage in outdoor sports provided that the sports do not include contact with other participants and involve no more than four participants playing the sport at the same time. Park benches, communal playgrounds, and playground equipment may increase the spread of COVID„19 and, therefore, shall remain closed”
